Clock and antivirus
The two most common reasons Multogram doesn't connect to Telegram or won't install: a wrong system clock and Windows protection (antivirus, SmartScreen). How to check and fix both.
If the application won't install or the accounts don't connect, the cause is often not Multogram and not the accounts, but two settings of Windows itself. Check them first — it takes a couple of minutes.
| What you see | Most likely | Section |
|---|---|---|
| Accounts don't connect, the sign-in breaks off, the session "drops" right after starting | The computer's clock differs from the exact time | Wrong clock |
| The installer won't run, the downloaded file disappeared, the application closes by itself, session files vanish | Windows protection mistook the application for a threat | Antivirus and SmartScreen |
Wrong clock
Why it breaks the connection
Telegram checks the time of every request. If the computer's clock has drifted forward or back, the server considers the requests invalid and drops the connection — even though the account, proxy and internet are all fine.
This looks like your situation if:
- accounts don't connect or drop a second after connecting;
- the sign-in code arrives, but the application doesn't accept it;
- Auto Registration and sign-in by phone number fail at the very first step;
- the errors appeared "by themselves", although everything worked yesterday.
The clock often goes wrong after reinstalling Windows, on a computer with two systems, on virtual machines and VPSs after a pause or a snapshot, and also if a system "optimizer" turned off the time service.
Check the difference
Open time.is — the site shows how far your clock is from the exact time.
| Difference | What it means |
|---|---|
| Less than 1 second | Normal, the clock is not the cause |
| 1–10 seconds | Borderline — synchronize |
| More than 10 seconds | Almost certainly the cause of the connection problems |
Set the exact time
Turn on automatic time
Settings → Time & language → Date & time. Turn on Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically.
Synchronize manually
On the same page click Sync now. The date of the last successful synchronization updates — this means the time is fixed.
If the button doesn't work
The time service is stopped. Open PowerShell as administrator and run:
Set-Service w32time -StartupType Automatic
Start-Service w32time
w32tm /resync /force
w32tm /query /statusIf synchronization still fails, set the time servers explicitly:
w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:"time.windows.com,0x9 pool.ntp.org,0x9" /syncfromflags:manual /update
w32tm /resync /forceRestart Multogram
The time is checked at connection, so after fixing the clock, fully close and reopen the application.
The time zone matters as much as the clock
If the screen shows the "right" time but a wrong time zone is selected, the actual system time is off by whole hours. Set both parameters to automatic: time and time zone.
If the clock goes wrong again
- After every shutdown — the battery on the motherboard is dead. Automatic synchronization will fix the time at startup, but it is better to replace the battery.
- Two systems on one computer — Windows and Linux store time in the hardware clock differently.
Switch Linux to UTC:
sudo timedatectl set-local-rtc 0 --adjust-system-clock. - A virtual machine or VPS — after a pause or snapshot restore the clock lags by the idle time. Synchronize the time right after resuming.
Antivirus and SmartScreen
Why the application falls under suspicion
Multogram keeps many network connections, works with session files and runs automation — by formal signs this resembles what antivirus heuristics consider suspicious. A false positive doesn't mean anything is wrong with the file, but it gets in the way of work.
| What happens | What the protection did | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| A "Windows protected your PC" window during installation | SmartScreen doesn't know the publisher | More info → Run anyway |
| The downloaded file disappeared from the downloads folder | The file was quarantined | Restore it from the protection history |
| Session files vanish, accounts aren't saved | Real-time protection deletes the files | Add the folders to the exclusions |
| Heavy slowdowns with a large number of accounts | The antivirus scans the files on every access | Add the folders to the exclusions |
Add Multogram to the exclusions
The protection stays on but stops touching the application's files.
Find the folders
- Installation folder — right-click the Multogram shortcut → Properties → Open File Location.
- Application data folder — type
%APPDATA%in the Explorer address bar and find the folder with the application's name. - Session folders — the ones you specified when adding accounts, in Auto Registration and in Converter.
Add them to the exclusions
Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Virus & threat protection settings → Manage settings → Exclusions → Add an exclusion → Folder. Add the folders one by one.
The same in PowerShell as administrator — use your own paths:
Add-MpPreference -ExclusionPath "C:\Program Files\Multogram"
Add-MpPreference -ExclusionPath "C:\sessions"Restart the application
Exclusions take effect right away, but files that were already deleted won't come back by themselves — restore them from quarantine or reinstall the application.
Restore a file from quarantine
Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history. Find the entry with the file name, expand it and choose Actions → Restore. Right after that, add the folder to the exclusions, otherwise the file will be deleted again.
Third-party antivirus
Kaspersky, Avast, Dr.Web, ESET and others work instead of Windows Defender — exclusions are added in their own settings ("Exclusions", "Trusted applications", "Whitelist"). The principle is the same: the installation folder, the data folder and the session folders.
Don't turn off protection entirely
Exclusions for a few folders solve the problem while the computer stays protected. Turning off the antivirus entirely makes the whole system vulnerable. And download the application only from the official website: an exclusion makes sense only for a file whose origin you are sure of.
Nothing helped
Open a support ticket — preferably from the application, Settings → Support, so the technical log is attached. Give the time difference from time.is, the name of your antivirus, what you have already tried and the error text. See Support.

Troubleshooting
What to do if Multogram won't install or start, a task doesn't begin, accounts don't connect, there are errors in the log or Telegram has restricted the accounts. A "symptom → cause → solution" table and links to detailed sections.
Errors and messages
What Multogram's messages mean: error screens at application start, refusals when a task starts, errors in the task log (session, chat access, privacy, FloodWait, username, invitations), AI assistant and ticket errors — what each one means and what to do.
