Auto Reply
The Auto Reply mode in Multogram: accounts answer incoming messages by themselves — by rules with conditions (contains, equals, regular expression) or with AI that decides whether to answer and writes the reply. Sources, intervals and rule setup.

Restriction risk
Auto Reply watches the incoming messages of your accounts and answers them by itself: by predefined rules or with AI. It suits answers to typical questions, greetings for new contacts and support across several accounts at once.
It runs continuously until the task is stopped.
Quick setup
Choose the source — Unread messages or Specific targets.
Choose the reply method — Classic (chains) with rules or AI with a prompt.
Set the interval and delay and start the task on the accounts you need.
Settings
Triggers & Targets
| Parameter | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger source | Unread messages | Unread messages — all of the account's conversations with unread messages; Specific targets — only the listed chats |
| Targets to monitor | — | For Specific targets: @username, a link, a phone number or an ID, one per line |
Reply Content
| Parameter | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Reply method | Classic (chains) | Classic — rules with conditions; AI — the model decides whether to answer and writes the reply |
| Reply chains | — | Rules for the classic method — see below |
| AI prompt | — | For the AI method: which messages to answer and how. The text of the incoming message is inserted automatically |
Intervals and options
| Parameter | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Check interval (sec) | 60 | How often to check incoming messages. Allowed 5–86,400 |
| Delay before reply (sec) | 3–15 | A random pause before the reply — so the reply looks like it comes from a person |
| Reply as quote | On | A reply quoting the incoming message. Without the checkbox — a regular message in the same chat |
Rules (classic method)
Click Configure in the Reply chains block. Each rule has:
- Rule name — for yourself;
- Conditions — one or more: Contains, Equals, Starts with, Ends with, Regular expression. Letter case doesn't matter;
- Match mode — Match any or Match all;
- Response — Static (text from the editor), Templates (a random one of the selected) or AI (the model writes the reply from your description);
- an Enabled switch, and Duplicate and Delete buttons.
Rules are checked in order, and the first match fires. If none matches, there is no reply. Rules can be exported and imported as JSON.
Rule "Price": Contains "price" | Contains "how much" (any) → "Price list: https://example.com/price"
Rule "Delivery": Contains "deliver" → "We deliver nationwide in 2–5 days"
Rule "Hello": Starts with "hello" → "Hello! How can I help?"Put more specific rules above general ones: "delivery to Canada" above "delivery".
AI method
Describe in the AI prompt which messages to answer and how. The model gets the prompt and the text of the incoming message, decides whether the message fits, and writes a reply — or skips it. By default Multogram AI replies; another provider and its key are on the AI tab.
You are a coffee shop manager. Answer only questions about prices, delivery and availability.
Don't answer anything else. Reply briefly and politely, in the other person's language, in no more than 2 sentences.A temporary AI failure (a pace limit, an overload, a timeout) is handled by the application: the request is repeated up to 4 times. If the AI never answers or refuses for good (wrong key, no money on the account, AI credits used up), the task stops with an "AI is unavailable" error.
How it works
- Every Check interval seconds the account looks at incoming messages: in unread mode — conversations with unread messages, in targets mode — only the given chats. Channels are skipped in unread mode: you can't reply to a channel post.
- The account's own messages are skipped; each message is answered once per run.
- In Specific targets mode the latest messages are remembered at start — replies go only to new ones.
- For a matching message: a pause from the Delay before reply → a reply as a quote or a message. The log shows "Reply sent: …".
The reply is always text: attachments from a static reply are not sent.
Recommendations
- An interval of 30–60 seconds balances reply speed against the number of requests to Telegram.
- A delay of 5–30 seconds before replying. Instant replies give away a bot.
- Specific targets for groups. To avoid answering everything in large groups, list the chats you need and make the rules more precise.
- Stop on a timer. Set Stop after (min) in the task window if you need the auto reply only for a while.
Common questions
Why didn't Auto Reply answer?
No rule matched, the rule is disabled, the AI model decided the message was off-topic, or the message came to a chat that isn't in Targets to monitor. In targets mode Auto Reply doesn't answer messages that arrived before the start.
Are messages marked as read?
No, Auto Reply reads messages without marking them as read.
Can I reply with a picture?
No, replies are sent as text only.
Does it work in groups?
Yes, if the group is among the conversations with unread messages or in Targets to monitor. Keep in mind that in an active group Auto Reply will fire often — make the conditions precise.
